‘As one of the first duties of this meeting of delegates of Queensland Teachers, I would ask you as a tribute to the memory of those of our comrades who are alive, but absent, fighting bravely the Allies’ cause of international justice and right, and still more in memory of those who have fallen, to rise in homage and respect— “Our Fallen Comrades With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, Australia mourns for her dead across the sea.... They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”
