Evidence

‘We once more accompany the classic Gibbon in his narratives of the cruel deeds of Attila and witness again the horrors of the sacking by the Huns of the ancient city of Rome ... In our Anzacs lying still and silent in far off graves of Gallipoli we see again the immortal Leonidas and his companions – the heroic three hundred of Thermopylae – upon whose place of burial was inscribed: “O Strangers, as you pass Sparta say that we lie here having done our duty in obedience to the laws of our country.”’
