<ptr target="ukred-29165">‘ Dear Mr. Evans
I was so pleased this morning to receive your volume of poems and have already “dipped into” them again to renew my acquaintance with some of those I liked best. It seems to me that there is a great field for a poet out here, to become the Poet of the Democracy and I believe you are enough in sympathy with the people and their aspirations to succeed in that field. There must be immense inspiration just now in the struggles of Labour to get its position fairly recognised. Have you written at all on that subject? I like your torch so much in the “Ode of the Australian Centenary” & other kindred subjects. Thanking you again for your good thought in remembering to send me the volume
Yours very truly Dora Montefiore’.
