I sat next to a Mr Amiel - prounounced ""Aymiell"" - a worthy Manchester tradesman; no doubt his ancestor was a Huguenot refugee. I had one of your vols. in my pocket, and showed him the passage about the family. He was greatly interested, and borrowed it. Returned it next day with the remark that it was ""too religious for him"". Alas divine philosophy!"</ptr>
